The Sardinia that endures

A village in the Sulcis,
ten minutes from the sea

Teulada is a genuine village in the heart of the Sulcis, a few kilometres from the unspoilt beaches of Sardinia's south-west coast. Crystal-clear water, the scent of Mediterranean scrub and thousands of years of history are waiting for you a few minutes' drive away.

Our holiday home is in the historic centre, at Via Cavour 33 — the historic S'arruga 'e is Portalis — a short walk from the shops, restaurants and local markets.

The place

An echo of old footsteps

Welcome to Via Cavour, the street that the beating heart of Teulada once respectfully called S'arruga 'e is Pottalis.

Picture the rhythmic sound of hooves on the cobbles as the sun goes down. This is where the day came to an end: between these narrow walls, the ox-drawn carts came back from the fields, laden with fruit and hard graft. It was no ordinary thoroughfare, but a parade of pride and prosperity.

What opened onto this street were not plain doorways, but true symbols of rural nobility.

These imposing wooden portals were the secret thresholds of the well-to-do houses; while the elegant façades looked out onto the parallel arruga deretta, it was here, round the back, that a family's real economic strength was revealed.

Today, staying at S'arruga 'e is Portalis Holiday Home means steeping yourself in that glorious past. You will be guests of a street that has kept its soul intact, a corner of Teulada where the charm of the old world is interwoven with the quiet of the present.

Local curiosity — if you want to feel like a true Teuladino, try saying it with the softness of the local dialect: for us the Portalis magically become «Pottalis».

The Portals

Keepers of a destiny — the secret thresholds of the well-to-do houses.

The Cart and the Oxen

To own them was to rule the land.

The Cobbled Courtyard

Wide spaces ready to take in the riches of the harvest.

The Charm of the Wood

Even today those portals stand up to time.
